Landfill

The Garrett County Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling Facility,
also known as the County Landfill, is located off Oakland Sang-Run
Road, 3.5 miles north of Oakland and 2 miles south of Bray School
Road. The facility is available for use by all county residents,
businesses, municipalities and private haulers collecting waste
generated within the county. Normal hours of operation are Monday
- Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.(Check "News & Updates," hours subject to change.)Waste brought to this facility
is taken over a scale where a tipping fee of $35.00 or $40.00 per ton
is collected. This tipping fee is among
the lowest in the State of Maryland. Other types of waste such
as white goods (appliances) are tipped at
a lower rate of $35.00 per ton due to the fact that they can
be diverted from the fill areas and recycled. Appliances that
contain, or once contained, refrigerant
gases may be disposed of for
$10.00 per unit. A separate fee is a also charged for tires
brought to the facility and is related to size of the tire and
whether or not the rims have been removed.
Effective August 1, 2008, tipping fees will increase for several materials accepted at the County Landfill. New rates are available on the List of Landfill Rates.
